She was protected and taken out of India by one of her father's soldier during the revolt. It was hardbound and contained illustrations. Macaulay, David, Motel of the Mysteries, 1979. Whitney, Mystery of the Green Cat, 1957, copyright. I'm so very grateful to have the answer. Part coming-of-age novel, part classic mystery, the book is marvelous, as Cyan struggles to come to terms with her father's death - and with her mother and stepsister-to-be as well. I just decided to go back (AGAIN) through all your Stumpers and Solved Mysteries looking for "shrinking".

Betty Antoncich, Mystery of the Chinatown Pearls, 1965. Rocks kept falling onto the house. Loper and Sally May own the ranch and, no matter what he does or how earnestly he tries not to, Hank usually runs afoul of Sally May before the tale is told. I am been looking for a book for sometime. He wears a costume made out of pajamas or long underwear or something. About a year and a half ago, I developed a web site devoted to Dad's books and getting them back in print.

Pascale Allamand, The Animals Who Changed Their Colors, 1979, copyright. You are thinking of Hilda van Stockum's books about the Mitchell family (The Mitchells, Canadian Summer, Friendly Gables). It seems to be Book #1 in the "California State Series." This is probably too late a publication date, though, as someone born in 1938 would have been 12-15 and likely too old to read about an 8 year old. The reference I found to the book on the web listed it under "lupus", and I strongly remember it--clearly, this one needs some investigation!

Written by Mabel O'Donnell, it was published by Row, Peterson and Company as If I Were Going in 1936 and 1941. I can't remember how many books were in the series, nor can I remember the author's name. But then she misses her family, and realizes she would like some company sometimes, even from her sometimes-stinky diapered brother. I believe they were the great-aunts of the children involved and had magical abilities. Cross Ron Roy's mystery series with Matt Christopher's sports books and you get the Ballpark Mysteries: fun, puzzling whodunnits aimed right at beginning readers.

Sykes, Pamela, Mirror of Danger (also published as Come Back. I can see the cover...just can't remember the titles... He proceeds to inflate his bicycle tires with this new gas and, after hours of practice, is able to pedal briskly and glide over trees and houses. Coverlet was Away, or Mrs Coverlet's Magicians. The story focuses on a 'blended' family of two girls and two boys. I’d also like to acknowledge Jason Schwartzman’s character Jonathan Ames in the new series Bored to Death.

This paperback book, with a shiny silver cover, was in my possession is the mid to late 1970s. I've just been talking with someone on the ABE boards who has this book and we are pretty certain this is it: "Martin builds a tele-spacer using odds and ends ... radio tubes, copper wire, aluminum foil, knobs, keys, an old fashioned space helmet (like a fishbowl), a bit of meteorite. But don't rely on fuzzy, half-remembered trivia from freshman biology. "We've very, very picky about the facts," warns Senior Editor Deborah Churchman. "The writer needs to do his or her research and make sure that the animals in question really exist where the writer puts them, and really behave the way the writer describes it. " Junior Trails requires that stories include Christian principles, "but without being preachy," says Editor Sinda Zinn.

He is shown to take responsibility very seriously, although this is more so in his twenties than in younger years, when he was a little prone to thoughtlessness. They have also been published in the monthly Taleem-o Tarbiat magazine for children. My stumper (B591) has been answered--and solved! It also recalls the mess the kids make while cooking candy, at the start of Alvin Fernald, Foreign Trader. It is neither C S Lewis nor Tolkein.

Many of these titles are the first in a series of books, so they will keep your kids reading for some time. The HISTORY DETECTIVES site doesn't live on pbskids.org any more. I still remember her magnetized hammer causing trouble with the rocket instruments. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the second book in the series. Service, also published in the early 1900s. I can't even begin to tell you how thrilled I was to see this picture again after so many years. A story about love and mercy, confession and forgiveness; as well as hatred and revenge, dishonestly and evil.

The Magic Drawing Pencil, or The Magic Pencil. Pudgins, who baby sits for three kids and does magical things like making a bathtub fly and making soda pop come out from the faucets. This MAY not be Andrew Henry's Meadow by Doris Burn, 1965 (see Solved Mysteries) since the end doesn't match, but check it for details anyway. With the help of Aslan, they work together to save Narnia from a terrible fate. This is another delightfully gross book in this series.

Occasionally, he tries to help people without Origami Yoda, and when doing so, goes into Kid Detective mode. Set mainly in a convent orphanage where young girls are trained to be musicians, this book is a fascinating look at 18th century Venice. The short story you describe is Mr. Was the collection you're looking for a paperback with a silver cover? This sounds like the story I remember, but it was definitely a STORY I read for school, because I know I wrote an essay on it.
